Police offer youths free pizzas
Helloooo...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/derbyshire/7446267.stm
Summary:
Police in a part of Derby gives free pizza to the local youth in order to maintain them from commiting crimes. Some local residents disagree with the police's solution. It is being said that giving pizza to the criminals is like giving them a pat on the back for the anti-social behaviour they display. The police say the pizza nights are a small part of the plan of serveral tactics. There are two sides who are discussing the pros and cons.
My Opinion:
I think it is fine to attract the youth to be more social, but giving them pizzas? It is like the shopowners said, you are giving them a pat on the back! That is stupid! You are rewarding the anti-social behaviour while you should be penilizing them! Please think of other resolutions of solving these problems... but not pizza!
Last one!!

MoD laptop stolen from McDonalds
Heya,
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7344043.stm
Summary:
A laptop from a member of the Ministry of Defence has been stolen while he was eating in McDonalds. The MoD said the information was not sensitive and was fully encrypted. The laptop holds information on 600,000 people who applied to join the armed forces. Whitehall staff are currently forbidden in taking unencrypted laptops or sensitive information out of the working area.
My opinion:
It is quite stupid to have your laptop stolen while eating in McDonalds. Why would you take a laptop containing important information out of the working area when not even paying attention to it. These things should be penilized (even worse) than they are now. They tightened the rules for taking those laptops away, but it should be penilized.
Toedels,
CheeriJoost.

Row over head teacher's funeral
Hiya...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicestershire/7455330.stm
Summary:
Teachers are forbidden to take a day off to go to the funeral of the head teacher who died of cancer last week. The council demands that the school stays open for the students who want to be tought. The teachers say the council has 'a lack of respect'. The daughter of the head teacher, Ruth English, thinks it is outrageous. "The staff think not only does this show a lack of respect towards my mum but they feel they are being disrespected in not being allowed to go and pay their respects." The council mourns for the relatives of the head teacher but they feel it is their duty to continue with the normal way of teaching. Pupils can remember her at school, together.
My opinion:
I agree that the school should be open, and that people can remember her at the school itself, but it is very unprofessional that even the closest member of the family cannot take the day off, like Ruth English. They could have arranged some agreement. It is just outrageous that they cannot even show their respects at the funeral because the school needs to be open. Very unprofessional.
Until again,

Just desserts for pie contestants
Hello everybody, yet again a quick article...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7455313.stm
Summary:
The custard pie throwing championships are being held in Kent for the 41st time. Competitors get points for every hit with outdated pies and get even more points for a headshot. The idea for a custard pie throwing championshi came from a Charlie Chaplin comedy. The championships was covered around the world, being broadcasted in Japan, China and even the USA. Contestants can join with teams of four. The concept is that two teams throw 10 pies at each other until they have no more. A fun fact: the pies do not contain custard but are made by a special recipe by the contest's 'Mr. Pastry'.
My opinion:
(I like custard. And pie. I like custard pie. Anyway...) I like the idea of custard pie throwing because this causes people to forget their worries and just enjoy themselves during the weekends. This is basically the same as the tomato throwing tradition in Valencia, Spain. I wish there was something like this in Holland. I think they should use pies with custard. Why would you call it 'CUSTARD pie throwing' is there is no custard in the pies you throw? Otherwise it is a fun event I would like to be at one time.
Bye,

Driver survives 100ft cliff fall
Hellew,
Well, (kinda stressed) I've got to post some blogs (about 5 or so) in the next few hours ^^ I also have to comment some peers on their blogs so this may look like a complete flood of messages.. but don't worry...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/7455532.stm
Summary:
A rescue team was deployed for a man and his dog who plummeted down 100 ft (30,5 m) in a 4x4 vehicle. His cries were heard by a nearby yacht. The dog was thrown out during the fall while the man fell further. The man is currently undergoing surgery for his suspected two broken legs. The dog was found unhurt on the top of the hill, he apparantly found his way back up. The reason why the man drove off the cliff is still unknown.
My opinion:
Wow. Just wow. Unbelievable that a man fell down 100 ft and survived with 'just two broken legs'. It is a bit stupid to drive down a cliff but the reason is still unknown so I cannot judge that. Quite interesting that the dog does not have any injury and even found his way back up. There's not alot to talk about with this topic... he's lucky that there was a yacht to hear him. Wow.
See you within a few minutes =P

Pigeons make pupils high flyers
Heey everyone,
I'm typing this while at my internship. I've got nothing to do for an hour or so, so I thought... let's work on school! Sooooooo yet again an article. ^^
-
-
Summary:
170+ pupils are using pigeons to improve their overall skills like numeracy and literacy skills.
Every class has their own adopted pigeon and they will study the flight paths, plot wind speeds and follow the races on the internet. Pupil care about the pigeons, and when they were asked to write about something interesting in the last year, more than 50 percent wrote about the pigeons. Lynn Hudson, head teacher, said: "This just shows how much impact the initiative has had in a very short space of time." This can help the children with problems they normally have with numeracy and literacy skills.
-
My opinion:
It is very interesting to see that pigeons can help people with developping skills. I agree, it's interesting for the pupils, but what the hey, everything is better than 'that stupid math lesson'. This way, the pupils can really try out what they have learned in school, so even pupils who have a hard time, are given a chance. This is a little bit of the future because you can learn better doing the things you learn than just sitting in a chair, watching some teachers telling you something. I really like these kind of teaching methods.

That's it =P

Huge rise in dog fights reported
Hello everyone,
I have to wait a few weeks before I can drive my motorcylce -_-;
Aaaanyhoo.. Here is YET again an article.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7432760.stm
Summary:
The number of dogfights reported has risen enormous. The RSPCA holds a conference to explain people that it's not the dog breed but the human behind the aggresive dogs. Agencies pin the blame on the dogs instead of the people behind them. The police isn't interested by the dogs being used as status symbols or weapons. The police "will do something about it if they carry a knife or they carry a gun." The RSPCA suggests people should microchip their dog and more dogs should be neutered. The government says they have reviewed the laws and will call irresponsible owners to account.
My opinion:
It's a shame more and more dogs are being used this way. Most dogs are as cute as can be, whatever the breed. Ofcourse, there's personality which can cause a dog to be touchy but almost all dogs are sweet at heart. Dogs can get aggresive when people treat them like crap. I think the RSPCA needs to ask the government to help them get these people because they are abusing the dogs for their own sick needs.

Yet again... an article.
Hello everyone!
I just picked up my driver's license for the motorcycle... you can expect me at school with my motorcycle within a few weeks. =D
Anyway, here is yet again an article, a summary and my opinion.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cornwall/6190432.stm
'Let car drivers ride motorbikes'
Summary:
Motorcyclists casualties remain too high to be at ease. Geoffrey Squibb, a former motorcyclist until 1990 where he had an accident which paralyzed him from the chest down, says the police "can't sit back and do nothing because people are dying on the roads". He wants car drivers to learn how to drive a motorcycle so they can feel how a motorcyclist feels vurnerable at times where a car driver feels completely comfertable. Ofcourse, this is not the only solution for reducing the casualties. Motorcyclists should wear bright colored jacks so they are more visible on the road. Also to remember for both parties: "Speed limits are there for a reason, it is a maximum and not a target."
My opinion:
Like I said, I just picked up my license so I'm still a rookie when it comes to driving a motorcycle. I think the casualties are indeed far too high, and there's both parties to blame. Car drivers usually think they're in their safe tin can. That's where the looking part slides away. A motorcyclist will look better because he knows he is vurnerable. Car drivers always say 'I didn't see the motorcycle at all!' after an accident, this is the problem of motorcyclists. So both parties need to be more aware of the other party, that way, we will know what the other perspective is.
So I hereby conclude my article jibberjabber and start to enjoy the feeling of being a motorcyclist! =D

Another Article =P
Hey guys,
Yet again an article... I've just been to Cambridge and I'm totally wrecked..
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6943835.stm
"State of Play: Violence and video games "
Summary:
The public debate about video games and violence starts every now and then. The debate always has two parts with the pros and cons. Yet people wonder, are we asking the right questions? There are a lot of people who enjoy puzzle games like tetris but games like GTA IV and Manhunt are (almost) banned because of their violence. Maybe we should stop talking about GTA and start talking about Puzzle Quest. Puzzle quest is a game in which you line up three crystals but at the same time, the more you lineup, the more damage you do to your opponent. Why can't we play puzzle games without killing? This is going to be a problem in the next few years. The simplest of games, killing added just for the amusement of the crowd. The future is going to be very weird.
My Opinion:
I agree about the main topic. I've played GTA and Manhunt myself and I personally think that they're just games for enjoyment just as puzzle games are for enjoyment too. Why do puzzle games suddenly need violence to be fun? That is indeed a question we need to ask ourselves.
Are games like Manhunt really the problem or are games like Puzzle Quest the beginning problem?
And yet again, signing out.

Files released on UFO sightings
Hello everyone,
Here is yet again an summary and article reaction, so...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7398108.stm
Summary:
Eight files about UFO sightings were released by the Ministry of Defence. This is going to expand to 200 files within the next few years.
These eight files cover the time between 1978-1987. In these files several people claimed to see weird lights and objects not known. One man even stated he had physical contact with green aliens since he was a child. Within the files are also sketches and drawings of UFOs which people claimed to have seen. There are people who say the files are just a wash-up and the real files are still somewhere within the government.
My opinion:
I think UFOs are interresting. That is because there are so much theories about it and I think it is quite good to finally have some 'official' stories and files. However, I DO think this could be a wash-up just to shut some people up. I will not believe a lot of stories until I saw it myself, and I think I share this opinion with a lot of people.
And so I conclude my weekly (sortof) blogging...

Why are girls fighting like boys?
Hey everybody, hope everyone had a nice holiday...
Here is yet again a summary of an article and my opinion about it.:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7380400.stm
Within the last few years, women got more violent. This was a shock to people in the UK because women are seen as mothers, daughters or wives. Women are usually less aggressive than men and the reason behind the aggressiveness is still a mystery because it takes more anger for women to really act violent. Women only cause 10 percent of the total crimes but this is a steep rise compared to a few years ago. Normally the women use nails or pull hair but the last few years they have brandished knifes, bottles and even pieces of wood. Some teenagers explained why they act so violent because the combination of drugs and binge drinking. They claim to have a kick and rush of adrenaline when they get punched and when they feel on top of the world. Some violent women are now causing a ruckus because men who are even more violent than them are given lighter sentences.
--
My opinion:
It is indeed a shock to hear women acting more violent. I never see women fight, only with boxing matches. It is quite weird to hear women getting worse sentences than men who are even acting more violent. I wonder what the women have trouble with because women are usually calmer than men and yet they attack people too. Fighting is something for men to do. Women should behave themselves because they always tell men that women are a more behaving sex. Even though women are only the 10% of the total crime rate, fighting remaines a bad thing altogether.

Article: Last Orders for Guinness?
Hey everybody, here is an article and my summary about it.
The article is a part of 'The Money Programme', which I saw. I had to make a summary of it, so here I go...
---
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7106277.stm
Guinness is a famous black stout which sales rates have been dropping for the last years.
With nearly 250 years of history, Guinness decides they should try to survive the jungle of pubs.
They try with their new, lighter and sweeter Guinness Red.
The sales dropped between 13% to 30% overall in the UK.
People in the UK crave for a refreshing and lighter drink which has taken their toll on Guinness.
The company holds hope as the want to attract the public which is more fond of lager than black, strong stout.
A main problem for the company is that Guinness Red isn't avaliable in cans while more and more people choose to drink at home.
Guinness is popular for their extraordinary adverts and their motto "Good things happen to those who wait". This time they go overboard with their adverts which causes people to say this seperates the advert part of the company with the real stout-brewing company.
Will Guinness Red revive the brand?
---
And so I concluce my summary.
My opinion about this article:
I think it's a shame for Guinness to 'almost' close down. I, personally, think it's an very nice stout, which I drink with friends. I hope that Guinness Red can save the company and that other people discover the brand that is Guinness. It's nice to see a company that old and trying to maintain their status as 'black stout brewery' while still attracting other public with all kinds of beverages. I hope to enjoy my pint of Guinness in my favorite Irish pub for the rest of my enjoyable, partying, student life.
Until next time.
