Police offer youths free pizzas
Helloooo...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/derbyshire/7446267.stm
Summary:
Police in a part of Derby gives free pizza to the local youth in order to maintain them from commiting crimes. Some local residents disagree with the police's solution. It is being said that giving pizza to the criminals is like giving them a pat on the back for the anti-social behaviour they display. The police say the pizza nights are a small part of the plan of serveral tactics. There are two sides who are discussing the pros and cons.
My Opinion:
I think it is fine to attract the youth to be more social, but giving them pizzas? It is like the shopowners said, you are giving them a pat on the back! That is stupid! You are rewarding the anti-social behaviour while you should be penilizing them! Please think of other resolutions of solving these problems... but not pizza!
Last one!!

MoD laptop stolen from McDonalds
Heya,
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7344043.stm
Summary:
A laptop from a member of the Ministry of Defence has been stolen while he was eating in McDonalds. The MoD said the information was not sensitive and was fully encrypted. The laptop holds information on 600,000 people who applied to join the armed forces. Whitehall staff are currently forbidden in taking unencrypted laptops or sensitive information out of the working area.
My opinion:
It is quite stupid to have your laptop stolen while eating in McDonalds. Why would you take a laptop containing important information out of the working area when not even paying attention to it. These things should be penilized (even worse) than they are now. They tightened the rules for taking those laptops away, but it should be penilized.
Toedels,
CheeriJoost.

Row over head teacher's funeral
Hiya...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicestershire/7455330.stm
Summary:
Teachers are forbidden to take a day off to go to the funeral of the head teacher who died of cancer last week. The council demands that the school stays open for the students who want to be tought. The teachers say the council has 'a lack of respect'. The daughter of the head teacher, Ruth English, thinks it is outrageous. "The staff think not only does this show a lack of respect towards my mum but they feel they are being disrespected in not being allowed to go and pay their respects." The council mourns for the relatives of the head teacher but they feel it is their duty to continue with the normal way of teaching. Pupils can remember her at school, together.
My opinion:
I agree that the school should be open, and that people can remember her at the school itself, but it is very unprofessional that even the closest member of the family cannot take the day off, like Ruth English. They could have arranged some agreement. It is just outrageous that they cannot even show their respects at the funeral because the school needs to be open. Very unprofessional.
Until again,

Just desserts for pie contestants
Hello everybody, yet again a quick article...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7455313.stm
Summary:
The custard pie throwing championships are being held in Kent for the 41st time. Competitors get points for every hit with outdated pies and get even more points for a headshot. The idea for a custard pie throwing championshi came from a Charlie Chaplin comedy. The championships was covered around the world, being broadcasted in Japan, China and even the USA. Contestants can join with teams of four. The concept is that two teams throw 10 pies at each other until they have no more. A fun fact: the pies do not contain custard but are made by a special recipe by the contest's 'Mr. Pastry'.
My opinion:
(I like custard. And pie. I like custard pie. Anyway...) I like the idea of custard pie throwing because this causes people to forget their worries and just enjoy themselves during the weekends. This is basically the same as the tomato throwing tradition in Valencia, Spain. I wish there was something like this in Holland. I think they should use pies with custard. Why would you call it 'CUSTARD pie throwing' is there is no custard in the pies you throw? Otherwise it is a fun event I would like to be at one time.
Bye,

Driver survives 100ft cliff fall
Hellew,
Well, (kinda stressed) I've got to post some blogs (about 5 or so) in the next few hours ^^ I also have to comment some peers on their blogs so this may look like a complete flood of messages.. but don't worry...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/7455532.stm
Summary:
A rescue team was deployed for a man and his dog who plummeted down 100 ft (30,5 m) in a 4x4 vehicle. His cries were heard by a nearby yacht. The dog was thrown out during the fall while the man fell further. The man is currently undergoing surgery for his suspected two broken legs. The dog was found unhurt on the top of the hill, he apparantly found his way back up. The reason why the man drove off the cliff is still unknown.
My opinion:
Wow. Just wow. Unbelievable that a man fell down 100 ft and survived with 'just two broken legs'. It is a bit stupid to drive down a cliff but the reason is still unknown so I cannot judge that. Quite interesting that the dog does not have any injury and even found his way back up. There's not alot to talk about with this topic... he's lucky that there was a yacht to hear him. Wow.
See you within a few minutes =P

Pigeons make pupils high flyers
Heey everyone,
I'm typing this while at my internship. I've got nothing to do for an hour or so, so I thought... let's work on school! Sooooooo yet again an article. ^^

-
Summary:
170+ pupils are using pigeons to improve their overall skills like numeracy and literacy skills.
Every class has their own adopted pigeon and they will study the flight paths, plot wind speeds and follow the races on the internet. Pupil care about the pigeons, and when they were asked to write about something interesting in the last year, more than 50 percent wrote about the pigeons. Lynn Hudson, head teacher, said: "This just shows how much impact the initiative has had in a very short space of time." This can help the children with problems they normally have with numeracy and literacy skills.
-
My opinion:
It is very interesting to see that pigeons can help people with developping skills. I agree, it's interesting for the pupils, but what the hey, everything is better than 'that stupid math lesson'. This way, the pupils can really try out what they have learned in school, so even pupils who have a hard time, are given a chance. This is a little bit of the future because you can learn better doing the things you learn than just sitting in a chair, watching some teachers telling you something. I really like these kind of teaching methods.

That's it =P
